Dementia is a subject about which most people try to avoid. Just the thought of memory loss - a loving, friend, colleague or worse yet ourselves in - we have too much trouble. Insofar as they are confronted directly with dementia, we think of it as an illness like, but "the problem of others." The fastest growing diseases in the world - - to disappear and not become "everyone's problem." Madness Take a look at the facts and statistics clearly shows that there is a huge problem, possibly creating a therapy for dementia and the numbers just solution.Indeed without statistics, the devastation is staggering.

Worldwide there are now an estimated 24000000 people living with dementia. Without a medical breakthrough in the fight against dementia, this number could increase up to 84000000, 2040.Although years age-related memory loss, dementia, Alzheimer's largest and best forms of a number of age-related disorders, memory loss is known. Today, five million Americans suffer from Alzheimer's, and the seventh leading cause of death in the United States more than 65-year-olds about 13% of Americans over 85 have Alzheimer's disease and half of them develop Alzheimer's disease - or to a related dementia.

Health analysts estimate that the number of Americans with Alzheimer's in just five years to jump from 7.7 million in 2050 to $ 16 million to more than double the number expected. Why is this disease so quickly? In short, our population "gray" and our citizens are living more than any generation before. In fact, the fastest growing segment of the population over the age of 80 years, and very likely to be crazy to change aspects of our population higher.Another are old enough, the pace of change has taken place.

Born in 1900 to a reasonable person would expect to reach age 50 - the average life expectancy was 47 years old. But medical breakthroughs in the last century, a number of factors such as wider access to medical care, sanitation and better nutrition have an enormous impact on our time. As a result, average life expectancy for American men and women is now 77 years old. It's just incredible to a 30-year increase in a century.

And on the verge of retirement of the Baby Boomer generation, now we are even greater if a change to a society. There are 77 million baby boomer generation. In 2030, these men and women about 20% of the total U.S. population. As a result, health experts estimate that a million baby boomers will develop Alzheimer's disease. Baby boomer women, the gloomier the news to six years in 55 women may develop Alzheimer's disease. Why more women than men, Alzheimer's disease? It's genetic. It's just that women traditionally live longer (about five years in the United States), it is basically a numbers game.
